2 Skinnee J's formed in 1991 in New York City while its members were still in college. In 1998, Special J, Rabbi J-Slim, and the rest of the group released their first album, Supermercado!, on Capricorn Records. 2 Skinnee J's came together to record their second album in 2000, but its release was delayed due to the collapse of Capricorn Records. This led to the subsequent purchase of the group's contract by Volcano Records, who released the album in 2002.
