The roots of 54-40 date back to 1981, when Brad Merritt, Ian Franey, and Neil Osborne got together
to form a band. This trio independently recorded their album, Things Are Still Coming Ashore, the same year that they formed.
In subsequent years, they band's lineup changed slightly, with the addition of Phil Comparelli and Matt Johnson. 54-40 released
a self-titled second album in 1986, and thanks to their fresh sound and years of touring under their belts, they started to
gain some serious attention from radio stations and music critics in Canada. Their single "baby Ran" became a huge hit amongst
college radio stations, and helped 54-40 gain a foothold in mainstream music.
This Canadian rock group found great success
in their home country, and moderate success in the US. Their song "I Go Blind" was famously covered by Hootie and the Blowfish
and was also featured on the soundtrack of the wildly popular TV sitcom "Friends". In 2010, after almost 30 years together
as a band, 54-40 went on a massive promotional tour. This tour prompted extreme excitement amongst their fans, who flocked
to their concerts, anxious to hear their favorite 54-40 hits. This tour, known as "The Green Tour", was one of the most highly
anticipated tours of the year, and was the last major tour for 54-40.
