9:30 Club Tickets - A D.C. Institution Still Rockin' Hard

D.C. is littered with monuments. But for music fans living in the surrounding area, the Hill and the National Mall haven't played as large a role as the 9:30 Club, which has brought in seminal punk and alternative acts from all over the country since opening in 1980. 9:30 Club Tickets - About 9:30 Club

The 9:30 Club's name comes from its original address (930 F Street) and opening time (9:30 p.m.). It was formerly the Atlantic Club in the 1970s, where punk and New Wave acts began to establish themselves. But by the time it was reopened as the current venue, it had developed into a hothouse for independent artists. Minor Threat, Fugazi, Black Flag, The Police, X, The Bangles, and countless other '80s acts could be seen here.

As the D.C. hardcore scene came into its own, the 9:30 Club played an important role in fostering it and giving artists a place to find their audience - and giving audiences a place to find a voice they could relate to.
