About A Streetcar Named Desire Los Angeles

Based on the 1947 play written by Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire has now been adapted as an opera by Andre Previn and Philip Littell. This stunning opera was created in 1995, and premiered at the San Francisco Opera on September 19, 1998 and ran until October 11, 1998. It was subsequently performed in New Orleans, San Diego, Washington, Los Angeles, Austin, Virginia, and Chicago, and also various places in Europe, including the Opéra National du Rhin in France, London, Dublin, Vienna, Sydney, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, and Melbourne.

A Streetcar Named Desire's composer Andre Previn is also an award winning composer and pianist. He is the recipient of the Austrian and German Cross of Merit and the Glenn Gould Prize. In addition, Previn also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center, and the London Achievement Award from The Recording Academy. Previn has also received several Grammy awards for his recordings, including the concerto Anne-Sophie. He frequently works with the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and he is the winner of four Academy Awards for writing the scores for Gigi, Porgy & Bess, Irma la Douce, and My Fair Lady.

Renee Fleming is reprising her famous role as Blanche DuBois for the Los Angeles production of A Streetcar Named Desire. With stunning vocal performances and beautiful musical accompaniment, viewers will get to follow the story of Blanche DuBois, who moves into her sister's apartment, creating tension with her brother in law. Blanche's world soon spirals out of control as the dark truths of her past are revealed.
