ABBA Mania Background
of the 70s, ABBA, was established in Stockholm, Sweden, in the early part of that decade.
In 1974, ABBA participated
in the Eurovision song contest. They took home the top prize with "Waterloo." They forged ahead to claim top spots on the
global music charts from the mid-70s to the early 80s. They additionally sold more than 380 million singles and albums internationally,
billing them as one of the best-selling music groups ever. ABBA also became the first group from a foreign country to experience
success in English-speaking countries. ABBA also found success with Latin American countries and cut some of their most popular
tunes in Spanish.
But despite the group's achievements, the ugly side of fame revealed itself when the marriages of
members Faltskog and Ulvaeus as well as Lyngstad and Andersson fell apart. It was never officially revealed that ABBA had
broken up, but their last show aired on The Late, Late Breakfast Show - a British television show - in 1982.
in the early 90s, many flicks renewed interest in ABBA's music, including The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
and Muriel's Wedding. And, perhaps the thing that really fueled the ABBA revival, was the development of Mamma Mia by British
playwright Catherine Johnson. The Broadway smash eventually evolved into a film that garnered several prestigious nominations.
2010, ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And, in 2013, ABBA The Museum premiered in Stockholm.
1982, the original ABBA members have only appeared together twice publicly. Ulvaeus said, "We will never appear on stage again.
There is simply no motivation to re-group. Money is not a factor and we would like people to remember us as we were: young,
exuberant, full of energy and ambition." Despite Ulvaeus' statement, tributes like ABBA Mania, keep the group's timeless music
alive! ABBA Mania has been captivating audiences since its inception in 1999. As the planet's top ABBA tribute concert, ABBA
Mania has circled the planet, giving concerts in France, Sweden, Malaysia, Dominican Republic, Grand Cayman Islands, Denmark,
South America Luxembourg and Russia, in its mission to entertain sold-out crowds with the contagious music of the legendary
Swedish group. In 2002, ABBA Mania ran for close to 20 weeks at the Strand Theatre in London. In 2004, ABBA Mania took the
stage for a one-time TV special to commemorate ABBA's 30th anniversary of winning the Eurovision Contest. The grand event
was watched by millions.
