Aberdeen IronBirds History
The Aberdeen IronBirds were founded in 2003 as the Single-A
affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, a top-tier Major League Baseball team that has had some great players and teams over the
years. This is a team that also originally started as an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays back in the 1970s and have been
affiliated with the Phillies, the Red Sox, the White Sox and the Marlins, though they moved into a completely different era
when they were renamed the IronBirds in honor of owner/operator Cal Ripken Jr. in 2003. Like the Iron Man himself, the IronBirds
have consistently brought their A-game to the field throughout the season, providing one great moment after another and helping
solidify themselves as staples of the local sports scene around Aberdeen, Maryland.

you know that Cal Ripken Jr. won back-to-back Gold Glove Awards in the early 1990s?
If you want to learn about persistence,
all you need to do is look at the career of Cal Ripken Jr. Originally touted as a mediocre defensive shortstop who was always
one of the top hitters at his position, Ripken kept working hard defensively and ended up being one of the best in the league
with the mitt as well. All in all, Ripken would go to 19 different All-Star games throughout his brilliant career, winning
two MVPs and leading the Orioles to a title in 1983.
