Air Supply Background
While in Australia performing in the musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, Russell Hitchcock,
Graham Russell, and Chrissie Hammond met and decided to form a harmony group in Melbourne. Hammond soon left, but Russell
and Hitchcock remained together and they formed Air Supply, usually performing with a rotating band. In 1967, they released
their first single, "Love and Other Bruises", which quickly peaked at number six on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles
Chart. Their debut album followed, and also achieved massive success, reaching gold status in Australia. After years of success
in their home country, Rod Stewart invited the group to tour with him in the United States in Canada in 1977, a huge move
for expanding their international fan base. In 1979, the band released Life Support, which included a track with Barry Gibb
singing background vocals. Finally, in 1980, Air Supply found success in the U.S. with a remixed version of "Lost in Love"
on Arista Records.
The album associated with this smash hit, Lost in Love, contained three singles that cracked the
U.S. Top 5 chart, such as "Every Other Woman in the World" and "All Out of Love". This album became just the foothold that
Air Supply needed to make a name for themselves in the American music scene. Throughout the '80s, Air Supply was extremely
successful not only in the U.S., but also throughout the entire world. Hitchcock's tenor voice and Russell's beautiful yet
simple lyrics have turned Air Supply into an iconic soft rock band that spurred many great hits over the years. And now you

and Russell were virtually bankrupt at points. In his 1995 DVD, Russell recalled a time where he and Hitchcock were so poor
that they would always check under hotel sofa cushions for loose change so that they could buy bread for toast. Once they
got their breakthrough in the '80s, they were luckily able to stop searching for loose change.
