Toxic Event Background
The Airborne Toxic Event was formed by Mikel Joliett during a turbulent time in his life. In
2006, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he was diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases, and he underwent a serious break-up.
Joliett, who was a writer and essayist at the time, poured his frustrations and emotions into lyrics, eventually amassing
a significant collection of songs. It was around this time that he met Daren Taylor, with whom Joliett started practicing
and rehearsing the songs he had written. The two realized that they could create something spectacular with the songs, so
they brought in some more musicians to augment the band. The lineup now consists of Taylor, Joliett, Steven Chen, Anna Bulbrook,
and Adrian Rodriguez.
The Airborne Toxic Event started performing shows around Los Angeles, gaining favorable reviews
from publications like Rolling Stone, LA Weekly, and the Los Angeles Times. After generating so much excitement and buzz about
their music, the Airborne Toxic Event released their debut self-titled album in 2008. The Boston Herald named the record "Debut
Album of the Year", and other publications started giving the album incredibly positive reviews. Suddenly, indie rock fans
all over the country were talking about the Airborne Toxic Event, who had become one of the most exciting up-and-coming indie
bands around. Since exploding onto the scene with such force, the Airborne Toxic Event has performed at major festivals like
