Alabama State Hornets Football Schedule
The Alabama State Hornets are well on their way to a memorable 2014 season,
having gotten off to an impressive 3-2 start in conference and currently sitting in second place in the Southwestern Athletic
Conference East Division standings, merely a half game behind Alcorn State. There are still several big games left on the
schedule providing the Hornets with a great opportunity to move up the standings and improve their chances at getting a shot
at the Division I-AA championship. The Bobcats will be looking to pull off some big wins as they try to maintain their position
near the top of the SWAC standings. Be sure to get your tickets for the Alabama State Bobcats from StubHub as soon as possible
so you can get some of the best seats in the house.
Alabama State has a big game against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs
on October 25th at Legion Field in Birmingham. This game is always one of the biggest of the year and has been dubbed the
Magic City Classic. The rivalry between Alabama State and Alabama A&M always makes for a thrilling game but this year's
should be even better than usual as they are neck and neck in the East Division standings. Another big division game comes
to Alabama State Stadium when the Jackson State Tigers make the trip to Montgomery. The Tigers also currently sit just behind
the Hornets in the division standings and if the Hornets can score big wins against both the Tigers and the Bulldogs they
could be sitting pretty heading into their final home game. The last home game of the season will take place at Alabama State
Stadium on November 22nd when the Stillman College Tigers come to town to take on the Hornets. This will be your last chance
to see the team at home and help cheer them on to a victory while also giving them a big send off before they hopefully go
on to compete for their first ever national championship.
The Alabama State Hornets are determined
to reclaim their position at the top of the SWAC football heap and have been steadily proving themselves to be one of the
top Division I-AA teams in the country. Running back Malcolm Cyrus has been a beast coming out of the backfield and has been
averaging just over 130 yards per game while amassing five touchdowns so far this season. Quarterback Daniel Duhart has been
no slouch either and boasts a high efficiency rating to go along with his six touchdown passes. DeMario Bell has proven to
be Duhart's favorite target and has accounted for four of his touchdown passes. Najee Bright and Marcu Berg have also been
solid on the defensive side of the ball with three interceptions each. Head coach Reggie Barlow clearly knows how to get the
most out of his players and great things can be expected down the stretch as the Hornets try to get to the top of the East
Division standings and earn a spot in the SWAC championship game.
When the Hornets hit
the gridiron for an exhilarating match up against one of their most bitter rivals, you will immediately see the difference
between seeing them on your big TV and being there in the the stands. Once you have seen the game the way it was meant to
be seen, the TV experience suddenly becomes completely inadequate. Be there for all of the hard-hitting college football action,
from highlight reel runs and eye-popping catches to clutch throws that will have you jumping out of your seat in no time.
With a game loaded with players that know how to put on a show, you'll see first-hand why the college football has become
the cream of the crop in American sports. There is nothing quite like seeing college football alongside tens of thousands
of fans, and that's definitely the case when it comes to seeing the Alabama State Hornets. As always, Alabama State Hornets
tickets are available at StubHub, the best place to go to find tickets for all of the biggest college football games. Before
you know it, the Hornets are methodically driving down the field with the clock winding down late in the fourth quarter, as
the intensity rises with each snap of the ball and fans eagerly anticipate the outcome. We all know you can follow the action
on your smart phone or watch from a bar down the street, but it is a completely different level of experience to be there
to watch all the drama unfold before your very eyes. By the time the game is over you will want to start making plans for
your next trip to Alabama State Stadium.
Alabama State Hornets Football Conference
The Alabama State Hornets
play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, or the SWAC, which is a Division I-AA football conference where the teams compete
in the Football Championship Subdivision. The SWAC is made up of ten teams with five competing in the West Division: the Arkansas
- Pine Bluff Golden Lions, the Grambling State Tigers, the Prairie View A&M Panthers, the Southern Jaguars, and the Texas
Southern Tigers. The West Division is made up of the other five teams: the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, the Alabama State Hornets,
the Alcorn State Braves, the Jackson State Tigers, and the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. The championship is decided
when the top teams from each division battle one another for the championship game. To date Grambling State has won more SWAC
football titles with six. Last season Southern emerged as champions after a 34-27 victory over Jackson State. Of course this
season teams from both divisions have been gunning for Southern and Jackson State looking to knock them down off of their
pedestal. For all of the best in Division I-AA football the SWAC is the place to be.
State Hornets have won one SWAC championship game in 2004 and were runners-up in 2001, 2003, and 2010.
