Previously, the city of Albuquerque had been represented by the Albuquerque Dukes, who relocated to Portland, Oregon in 2001. Interestingly enough, the name Isotopes comes from a fan's suggestion as a reference to the baseball team on the popular TV show "The Simpsons." The Isotopes finished just below .500 last season in a very strong Southern Division.
