Genevieve Alison Jane Moyet was born on June 18th, 1961 in the small British suburb of Billericay, Essex.
Her father, who was of French origin, was a massive fan of th French vocal legend Jacques Brel, who was known as a legend
in his native country for his sensuous and soulful love ballads. This paternal influence would manifest itself later on during
Moyet's career as somewhat of a torch singer- a woman who harkens back to the days when temptresses would croon the night
away with nothing but their vocal prowess and possibly a drunken piano player to accompany them-- yet Alison Moyet tempered
this influence with a healthy dose of the teenage punk rebellion that ran so rampant during the late 1980's. during her adolescence,
Alison Moyet was a very vocal component of the underground punk scene that was taking Essex and London by storm, collaborating
with some of the biggest names in the subversive movement-- bands like the Vandals, the Vicars, and former members of Depeche

Alison Moyet struck out on her own in 1984 with the release of her first solo
album, Alf. The record was an immediate hit, reaching number one on the UK album charts and earning her a headlining spot
at Live Aid alongside such legends at Pete Townshend of The Who, David Bowie, and Bob Geldof. Her sudden rock-star status
enabled her to release a slew of well-received albums throughout the 1990's, including such chart-toppers as Hoodooand Essex.
After 1995, however, litigation with her prime record label, Sony, put a damper on her creative output and, for all intents
and purposes, she sequestered herself in a self-imposed hiatus until 2002, when she was released from her contract.
