All American Prospects Game Schedule

Late September is time for one of the most exciting games in all of hockey, the All American Prospects Game. Held at First Niagara Center in Buffalo New York, the game featuring forty of the top American born NHL prospects touches down in a legitimate hockey hotbed. Big time NHL fans mark the calendar for this game each year as a chance to try to see which players they should be most excited about their favorite team selecting in the draft. Since 2012 when the game made its debut, hockey lovers from all over the United States have made a pilgrimage to First Niagara Center to see the NHL stars of the future all hit the ice in one arena and all looking to impress their future employers. Be sure to be there in 2014 for the third annual All American Prospects Game!

The Teams

Each year the two teams competing in the All American Prospects Game feature different names as they are named after the former NHL players or coaches who are coaching each team. Regardless of the team names one constant is that each of the forty NHL prospects who hit the ice are looking to impress the more than 150 NHL scouts that are in the audience every year. If you are looking to see some of the best young hockey talent in the United States look no further than the All American Prospects Game, full of intense competition with hockey players looking to prove that they will be successful in the professional ranks. This is a unique opportunity to catch many of the NHL stars of tomorrow playing together as amateurs.

The Experience

Upon entering First Niagara Center fans are well aware that they are about to see a hockey game unlike any other. The players warming up on the ice are visibly fighting off nerves and trying to get out all of the jitters before the puck drops for the opening face off. The crowd is full of players' families who are anxiously awaiting the game to start to see their sons and brothers strut their stuff and make an impression on the hockey world. Others in the crowd are the NHL scouts in possession of notebooks and laptops rigorously recording notes and observations about each player as the game goes on. And finally, there are the puckheads who are just thrilled to be there for all of the nonstop action that a hockey game offers and the feats of athleticism put on by the athletes on the ice and you will surely understand their enthusiasm when you choose to attend the All American Prospects Game. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip the following year.

The Players

Representing the best of the best when it comes to American born hockey players, each athlete on both team is hoping to show that they deserve to be taken at the top of the following Spring's NHL draft. It is certainly an honor just to be chosen to play in this exhibition match, but getting there is not enough. Now is do or die time and the players on the ice know that a good performance could raise their draft stock while too many mental or physical errors could cause them to fall on draft day. While it remains to be seen where the participants in the 2013 All American Prospects Game will be taken in the 2014 NHL Draft, three players from the 2012 game were taken in the first round of the 2013 draft including Seth Jones who was drafted fourth overall by the Nashville Predators. Clearly the NHL scouts are paying attention to the game and so should any hockey fan, especially if you have a rooting interest in any of the NHL teams who will be picking towards the top of the draft. Do not let this one of a kind opportunity pass you by, start making plans to be in Buffalo for the next All American Prospects Game today.

All American Prospects Game History

Although there have only been two All American Prospects Games to date, it was a resounding success from the inaugural game. In addition to the future stars on the ice, several former NHL luminaries have been involved in the game including Phil Housley, Rob McClanahan, Don Granato, and several others. Legendary Detroit Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman dropped the puck at the start of the inaugural All American Prospects Game beginning a tradition of American hockey excellence that looks like it will be going strong for years to come.
