The Pixies came together in the 80's in Boston and debuted with Come On Pilgrim in 1987. Shortly afterward, they would release Doolittle and Surfer Rosa, two records that would establish their reputation for catchy punk rock that would leave listeners' ears ringing due to Frank Black's vocals. Tensions within the band resulted in their breaking up in the early '90s--seemingly for good.
In 2004, the Pixies got over their differences and decided to head back out on tour, much to the delight of fans.
