About The Band
in 2007 when all four band members met each other at Leeds Metropolitan University. It didn't take long for the members to
realize they all shared a passion for music and began sharing ideas for songs, resulting in rehearsal sessions that would
stand to be the beginning of the band known as Alt-J, although they would undergo a series of name changes before deciding
on the name. Passing on the name "Daljit Dhaliwal" and not being able to use "Films" due to another band having the same name,
culminating in the name Alt-J. The group began rehearsing in their room on campus, but had to ensure that they weren't too
loud, which resulted in the sound that they currently have. Since the members of the group had to keep the noise to a certain
level, they couldn't include instruments such as bass drums or bass guitars, which is how they settled on their unique sound
in the first place. Recording a demo in 2011 that contained the songs "Bloodflood" and "Tessellate", both of which would be
included on their debut album, Alt-J was on the road to success. They have since released their debut album "An Awesome Wave"
that has spawned a multitude of singles that have made their way onto television and film alike.
With a few years of rehearsing and honing their sound, Alt-J set off to make their mark in the musical world
with their release of their demo EP that contained songs that would later be on their debut album. "Tessellate" and "Bloodflood"

to put their foot in the door, it was with their debut album "An Awesome Wave" in 2012 that cemented them as a band worth
listening to. With singles such as "Fitzpleasure" and "Breezeblocks" as well as others, Alt-J has become one of the hottest

it's not surprising that some groups end up reaching far and wide to find a certain name that will be intriguing to newcomers

familiar for others. The name Alt-J doesn't stand for anything you might think it does, as it as a name that actually stands
for a symbol that can't really be pronounced. When written properly Alt-J comes in the form of a basic triangle that is somewhat
familiar to those who find themselves on the computer a lot. The name Alt-J is actually what you press on a Mac in order to
come up with the triangle symbol that they are also known as. An odd name to be sure, but intriguing nonetheless.
