Alter Bridge was established in 2004 in Orlando, Florida, by Scott Phillips and Mark Tremonti. Alter
Bridge is also comprised of Myles Kennedy (ex frontman for Mayfield Four) and Brian Marshall (former bassist for Creed). The
group cut their first album, One Day Remains, in 2004. It claimed gold status in the U.S. and yielded three tracks. Three
years later, Alter Bridge issued their sophomore album, Blackbird. The album highlighted the hit tracks, "Watch Over You"
and "Rise Today." "Watch Over You" cracked the Top 10 for videos and was also included on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew. The
band road-tested the album, garnering more fans from every corner of the globe.
As far as the band's subject matter
is concerned, their first two efforts centered on determination and hope when dealing with hardships. But, on AB III, the
theme changed. Kennedy described the shift, saying, "This record is definitely a departure from the last two albums in terms
of its subject matter. It touches on the thoughts and emotions of someone who has come to question everything that was once
regarded as an absolute truth. It's the realization that everything you once believed in might not exist."
single, "Slip to the Void," sets the pace for the journey. Tremonti said, "'Slip to the Void' has one of my favorite vocal
performances ever by Myles, the song is really creepy and lets the listener know the vibe of the record. It's pretty dark,
the intro really sucks you in."
The studio album, Fortress, dropped next in 2013. The band also had made plans to issue
a box set in honor of their decade together. The anniversary 27-disc collection has not been released as of yet.
Alter Bridge's discography is comprised of: One Day Remains (2004); Blackbird (2007); AB III (2010);
and Fortress (2013).
Alter Bridge Trivia
Do you know where Alter Bridge got the inspiration for their
name? The band borrowed the name from a bridge that used to be in Detroit, Michigan, close to Mark Tremonti's house. At the
time of its existence, the bridge took its travelers to an area that was deemed unsafe. To Tremonti, the name of the band
represents "choice and looking to the future."
Alter Bridge Concert Experience
Frequently celebrated for
their live shows, Alter Bridge stays away from performing in amphitheaters and larger venues but rather prefers to play in
more intimate settings like the House of Blues. In an interview with Artistdirect, Myles Kennedy said, "We're definitely a
live band. That's what it's all about for us. We make records so we can go out and play for people." In past years, the band
has shared the stage with multiple surprise guest musicians, like Eric Friedman, Slash, Paul Reed Smith and Wolfgang Van Halen.
and fans all agree that Alter Bridge's live shows are definitely worth experiencing for yourself. Sure, you can listen to
your iPod and pull up Alter Bridge's tunes on YouTube, but why would you pass up the chance to be a part of something so much
better? Sharing in the passion and enthusiasm for a band with other fans is an experience you just don't get from your headphones.
