American Idiot El Paso Tickets

American Idiot El Paso Tickets

The critically acclaimed musical, Greenday's American Idiot, has found success on both Broadway and in London and is now travelling city-to-city across North America. On December 9 at 7:30 PM, El Paso audiences will have the opportunity to see this groundbreaking rock musical at the Plaza Theatre. The musical contains content and strong language that is intended for an adult audience. The American Idiot's characters are in many ways representations of the fans found in the audience of a Greenday show. While the musical is very much representative of Greenday, the musical score are the arrangements and orchestrations of Tom Kitt. Inspired by The Who's Tommy, the American Idiot audience will enjoy an energized with Greenday's pop-punk rock guitar riffs, evoking raw emotions with vocal harmonies comparable to the Beach Boys and Rufus Wainwright. It is no wonder why the America Idiot has been described as the "most unapologetic rock show that Broadway has seen." The musical American Idiot is not just for Greenday fans only, as audiences across North America (and soon Asia) are lining up to find out.

American Idiot is a story of three lifelong friends (Johnny, Will and Tunny) who are pushed to either follow their dreams or seek the security of the American suburb. Johnny, Will and Tunny are typical disaffected youth, young guys who are restrained by the seemingly mundane existence in the suburbs with a yearning to experience something more. Dealing with both depression and addictions, the characters in American Idiot capture a snapshot of punk rock angst living amongst the paranoia the followed the incidents on September 11. The aim is to connect with the post September 11 American audience in the new political climate that the catastrophic events created through the somewhat coming of age story of American Idiot.

The musical is based on the Grammy Award-winning album, American Idiot, by pop-punk rock band Greenday. Greenday is a three-piece pop punk band with Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool. The album American Idiot features the band's hits "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "21 Guns," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," "Holiday" and "American Idiot." Greenday properly hit the music scene in 1994 when their album Dookie sold 15 million copies and earned the band its first Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance. The band produced two relatively unknown albums prior to the success of Dookie, which marked a new direction for the band. Green Day has continued to be at the top of the charts and do the unexpected with American Idiot. Not only did American Idiot debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart and receive seven Grammy nominations, it inspired the Tony Award-winning musical. When the musical opened at the Berkley Repertory Theatre in September 2009, it had outstanding attendance. It quickly transitioned into its new home on Broadway at the St. James Theatre.

Now, El Paso audiences will enjoy this brilliant rock musical at the The Plaza Theatre. The Plaza opened September 12, 1930 and was located in the center of the growing El Paso. The theater was designed in a Spanish Colonial Revival style and was home to a $60,000 Mighty Wurlitzer Organ. In the 1970s, the theater was sold. The intricately breathtaking artwork and the once prized Mighty Wurlitzer Organ was auctioned off.
