Anaheim Ducks Playoff Tickets

Anaheim Ducks Playoff tickets

Anaheim Ducks History

The Anaheim Ducks have been an integral part of the NHL since entering the league in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They were initially owned by the Walt Disney Company and took their name from the 1992 Disney film The Mighty Ducks. In 1993 the Ducks selected Paul Kariya in the draft who would play his first game for the Mighty Ducks in 1994 and become the face of the franchise for years to come. The Mighty Ducks proved that they were for real when they acquired Teemu Selanne who would pair up with Kariya to form one of the most potent offenses in the league. The 1996-1997 season resulted in the Mighty Ducks reaching the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They have since made the playoffs nine times in their twenty seasons in the NHL, winning the Western Conference twice, in the 2002-2003 and 2006-2007 seasons. The Ducks won the Pacific Division, the Western Conference, and the Stanley Cup Championship during the 2006-2007 season. The Ducks have established themselves as one of the top teams in the NHL and won the Pacific Division in the 2012-2013 season. The 2013-2014 season has been another great one which will see them qualifying for the playoffs for a tenth time and likely winning their second straight Pacific Division title. After being knocked out of the playoffs in the Western Conference Quarterfinals in 2013 you can be sure that the Anaheim Ducks will be hungry for a deep playoff run and shooting to bring home a second Stanley Cup Championship.

About the Team

The 2013-2014 season has been a landmark one for the Ducks so far. They sit at the top of the Pacific Division standings, a handful of points ahead of their in-state rivals the San Jose Sharks. If the Ducks are able to close out the regular season strongly they should capture an unprecedented second straight division title and have home ice advantage for most of the playoffs. The Ducks have been dominating the competition all season and are currently ranked second in the league in goals scored per game and fifth in the league in goals against average. If they can manage to get their power play unit which is currently 18th in the league and their penalty killing unit which ranks 12th to improve even a little bit, the Ducks might be unbeatable and one their way to a second championship. Center and captain Ryan Getzlaf leads the team in points, assists, and plus/minus, and between him, assistant captain Teemu Selanne, and leading goal scorer Corey Perry, the Ducks have an amazingly potent offense that should continue to light up the scoreboard well into the playoffs. Jonas Hiller is back minding the net for the Ducks, having fully recovered from bouts of vertigo that plagued him in part of the 2011 season. If he can get hot in the playoffs and play in the manner that helped the Ducks finish second in the Western Conference in 2013, it could be a banner year for the Ducks. A strong finish to the regular season could really help the Ducks in the playoffs, giving them plenty of games on their home ice in front of their dedicated fans who can help cheer them to wins and guide them to a deep playoff run. Be sure to be there down the stretch and during the playoff run with tickets courtesy of StubHub.

The Experience

Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding the NHL playoffs and fans of the Anaheim Ducks are some of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire NHL. On game day at Honda Center the fans file in and take their seats and that is when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip. Everything is ratcheted up a notch during the NHL playoffs and the further teams advance the more intense the competition becomes. If you thought regular season NHL games were exciting, just wait until you experience an NHL playoff game live and in person.

NHL Western Conference Pacific Division

The Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NHL is made up of seven teams: the Anaheim Ducks, the Calgary Flames, the Edmonton Oilers, the Los Angeles Kings, the Phoenix Coyotes, the San Jose Sharks, and the Vancouver Canucks. The Pacific Division was formed in 1993 and is currently the only division in the NHL without an Original Six team. The most recent Stanley Cup Champion to come out of the division is the Los Angeles Kings who won it in 2012. Three other Pacific Division teams have won the championship: the 1995-1996 Colorado Avalanche, the 1998-1999 Dallas Stars (who are no longer in the division), and the 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks. There are several intense rivalries in the Pacific Division which means that every division game is going to be hotly contested. Teams from the Pacific Division are regularly among the best in the Western Conference and are typically serious contenders for a Stanley Cup Championship.

Trivia

The Ducks have no retired jerseys yet, other than Wayne Gretzky's number 99 which has been retired throughout the league, although three former Ducks have been inducted into the Hall of Fame: Scott Niedermayer, Adam Oates, and Jari Kurri. The Ducks' mascot is Wild Wing, an anthropomorphic duck who was featured in the Disney Mighty Ducks cartoon which came out shortly after the movie. After the Mighty Ducks were sold by Disney they became simply the Anaheim Ducks, which was good for Disney because the company could no longer make any Mighty Ducks movies or cartoons while the franchise had the name.
