Ryan was a pitcher who has ties to both the Angels' and Mets' organizations, as he was drafted by New York and eventually went on to play in California for the Angels. After showing some major signs of dominance in New York, he landed in California in 1972, immediately posting his first great season by winning 19 games with a 2.28 ERA and breaking 300 strikeouts for the first of six different times.
