About Animals as Leaders
Animals as Leaders
is the brainchild of visionary guitarist Tosin Abasi, and is the spiritual successor of Abasi's former heavily technical act
Reflux. Reflux would disband due to a variety of issues, at which point mid size label Prosthetic Records scouted Abasi for
his raw musical talent on the guitar. Initially offering him an exclusive record deal as a solo act, Tosin declined and instead
embarked on a journey to further his own musical repertoire via music school.
After taking a gap year, Tosin Abasi approached
Prosthetic Records once again to see if the solo record deal was still on the table. It was, and soon after, Animals as Leaders
was born, a name that encapsulated the raw animality present in all of Abasi's guitar work. Abasi soon got to work alongside
sound engineer Misha Mansoor, spending 2008 and 2009 recording for his debut release.
Their debut would breakout in
a big way, and it wasn't long before Tosin was on the tour road, bringing his unique sound to a new venue each and every night.
He would fit right in on the 2010 Summer Slaughter Tour, alongside other heavy rockers such as Veil of Maya, All Shall Perish,
and Vital Remains. Animals as Leaders wouldn't stay in the mid leagues for long, soon touring alongside mega artists such
as Circa Survive and Codeseven.
Three albums and plenty of live performances later, Animals as Leaders is now working
with Sumerian Records and features the supporting artists Misha Mansoor, Javier Reyes, and Matt Garstka. Abasi and company
are showing no sign of slowing down as they continue to wow and amaze the musical mainstream with each new track.
The band's debut self titled album would receive critical acclaim across the board, including a near perfect 9.5
stars from music critic Rock Sound and it was dubbed the 12th best album of the year by metal website metalsuck.net. The album
contained a flurry of hard hitting singles, including "on Impulse", "Tempting Time", and "CAFO". The album would drop favorably
in 2009 on metal label Prosthetic Records.
After extensive touring and growth, the band headed back into the study in
2011 and started recording their sophomore follow up Weightless. The album again made a lot of noise when it was released,
hitting Billboard's Top 200 at the #92 spot and a strong #7 showing on Top Hard Music. Under the Gun Review gave the album
a perfect score, and lavished praise no the album which was carried by the unforgettable singles "An Infinite Regression",
"Odessa", "Isolated Incidents" and "Do Not Go Gently".
The band's most recent release, The Joy of Motion, was the much
anticipated third piece of the band's discography, and a welcome release after three long years of waiting. The album picked
up perfect and near perfect scores from Music Radar and Sputnikmusic, with a vaunted 9.3/10 from Ultimate Guitar. The album
again features Misha Mansoor on production, and was promoted with the unstoppable singles "Tooth and Claw" and "Lippincott",
which are welcome entries into progressive rock cannon.
The band's name, Animals as Leaders, is
derived by the novel Ishmael, a 1992 novel put out by Daniel Quinn.
The Animals as Leaders Concert Experience
that is so filled with raw, unadulterated, frenetic musical talent is rarely seen in this day and age of pop music and catchy
riffs. Lacking vocals and made up of nothing but three dedicated performers and their instruments, Animals as Leaders deliver
an experience that transcends language and digs into something much deeper and much more emotionally inspired. Still a fresh
group of musicians with nothing holding them back, Animals as Leaders have a no fear attitude that creates a performance that
is both highly technical and incredibly imaginative. Don't wait to see these legends-in-the-making live and in the flesh -
