About Apocalyptica

The metal band Apocalyptica was formed in 1993, by cellistsEicca Toppinen,Paavo Lötjönen,Max Lilja, andAntero Manninen. By 1996, the band had released their debut album, "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos," which produced their signature style of playing Metallica covers on cellos. Two years later, Apocalyptica followed up with their second album, "Inquisition Symphony," which also featured covers of Pantera, Faith No More, and Sepultura, in addition to three original songs written by Eicca Toppinen. After a small lineup change in 1999 when Antero Manninen was replaced by Perttu Kivilaakso, the band returned to the studio to begin working on their next album, "Cult." "Cult" was released in 2000, and contained 3 covers and 10 original songs.

Apocalyptica released their fourth album "Reflections" in 2003, which was solely comprised of original songs and no covers. The band also allowed their music to be more experimental on this album, with Slayer's Dave Lombardo playing drums on some of the songs. Their self-titled 2005 album featured even more guest musicians, including HIM's Ville Valo, The Rasmus' Lauri Ylonen, and Dave Lombardo again. Apocalyptica's sixth album "Worlds Collide" was released in 2007, and took their music in a slightly different direction with a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes." When "Worlds Collide" was released in the United States, it entered the top 10 of the Alternative Rock charts and Active Rock charts.

Since their inception, the band has gone on to tour the United States and Europe, playing to packed venues wherever they go. They also were featured as a musical guest on Last Call with Carson Daly, making their American television debut.

Apocalyptica's Breakthrough Album

Since their debut album was released, Apocalyptica was a hit. Fans loved the unique mix of classical instruments with the heavy metal music of Metallica. In 2008, the band got another surge of fans after their song "I Don't Care" hit the charts. They later reached the number 3 position on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Track chart and the number 2 position on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock. Apocalyptica eventually reached number 1 on the Billboard rock chart, making them the first Finnish band to do so. After touring Europe and the United States, in addition to numerous festivals, Apocalyptica is now embarking on another tour and you don't want to miss their show when they come to a venue in your city.
