About The Aquabats
The Aquabats would
form in the early 1990s, after Orange County musicians Christian Jacobs, Chad Larson, and Boyd Terry would spoof the local
punk scene with an upbeat ska sound that featured zany lyrics and costumes. Inspired by a medley of genres including ska,
punk, and new wave, the Aquabats would kick off their careers in the local OC ska scene. The band at this point was still
more an amorphous and free shifting group than not in terms of songs, costumes, and even members.
By the mid 90s the
band had settled on a 9 person lineup, and would adopt their iconic Aquasuits - a teal rashguard, cap, goggles, board shorts,
and custom vinyl belts. The band also settled their bands official backstory - superheroes from the far off land Aquabania.
The band would soon take superhero names, with the current lineup being made up of The MC Bat Commander, Crash McLarson, Jimmy
the Robot, Ricky Fitness, and Eagle "Bones" Falcon. The band recorded and released their debut full length in 1996 and quickly
developed a huge and devout fan base. The band would integrate their superhero myths into their shows, spending the entire
concert in character as they jam, dance, and fight villains on stage. In 1996 the Aquabats signed with Goldenvoice, riding
on the mid 90s ska wave that had swept across mainstream America.
The band would experience some difficulty while experimenting
with their sound for their third album, and would turn to attempt to promote a television show featuring the band titled The
Aquabats! In Color! The Aquabats would briefly stall out in the early 2000s, and the future of the band would be cast into
doubt. However, in true superhero fashion, the band would sign to Nitro Records in 2004 and release a comeback album the next
year. The return of the Aquabats would be solidified, with them resuming their touring schedule and breaking out into playing
shows in the UK and Japan.
The Aquabats' first full length, The Return of the Aquabats would
be released independently in 1996, selling 24,000 copies without having a label officially supporting or promoting them. The
album would be re released in 2002, bringing back some of the most classic Aquabats hits such as "Playdough", "Martian Girl"
and "Idiot Box". The first album would encapsulate the Aquabats in their ska origins, and despite being almost two decades
old still holds many crowd favorite tracks.
The bands follow up in 1997, The Fury of the Aquabats, would be an eclectic
mix of tracks, most affectionately remembered for the band's de facto anthem "Super Rad!". The album would break the Billboard
200, and receive positive reception from fans and critics alike. The album went above and beyond its predecessor in terms
of wacky humor and ambition, featuring too many amazing tracks to count - including "Fight Song!", "The Story of Nothing!",
"Cat with 2 Heads!", "My Skateboard!" and their very own "Theme Song!". The award for strangest track, however, may be a tie
between "Attacked by Snakes!" and "Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates".
The band's 1999 release of The Aquabats!
vs. The Floating Eye of Death would be a musical departure from their previous album, and would not do well commercially.
Nonetheless the album contained some catchy tunes in "Sequence Erase" and "Anti-Matter". Six years later, the band would surge
back into prominence with Charge!!, which was both commercially successful and much loved by the Aquabats fan base. The album
would be carried by the hit single "Fashion Zombies!", which proved that the MC Bat Commander and crew were back in business.

Gabba! The popular nickelodeon children's show featuring DJ Lance Rock was created and produced by members of the Aquabats,
and features guest spots from the band during the show. Their second television venture, The Aquabats! Super Show! would be
nominated for a daytime emmy.
