Santa Barbara was first settled by the Spanish in 1782.

became a part of the country two years later. Once a part of the United States, the population of Santa Barbara rose rapidly
and the city began to thrive in ways it never had in the past, and once accessible by railroad things changed even more drastically.
Much of the city was again destroyed by natural disaster in 1925 when another earthquake devastated the area, even killing
more than a dozen people. However, Santa Barbara again rebuilt and has become a hotbed for cultural refinement that attracts
many a visitor to its unique coastal location.
