Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Antunes was always interested in music. As a child he became interested in artistic language, and soon began expressing himself through poetry and the spoken word. These interests were laying the foundation for what would become a successful career using his written skills and musical skills to become a successful musician and poet. He entered the Colegio Equipe in 1975 and met the members of his future band Titãs. He began to compose with classmate and new friend Paulo Miklos in 1978, and began to study Portuguese, learning about the language, culture and literature of the country. He then moved to Rio de Janeiro and began recording with Titas, who released their first album Titas in 1984. They performed all over the world, but in 1994, Antunes decided to step back from the group and try a solo career. His new life as a solo artist wasn't an easy one, but he continued to work at it and be true to his talent. And in 1993, he released a solo album entitled CD Nome, which featured poetry, music and computer animation. The video for "Nome" was played in art venues and festivals in Brazil, Italy, Argentina and many more. He has released seven albums as a solo artist, and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in classical music. Antunes' compositions have been used in a number of foreign films and his collaborative album with Degard Scandurra and Toumani Diabate reached No. 5 on the World Music Charts Europe in August of 2012.
