Braves Update – Week of July 4

The Braves are once again battling for the lead of the N.L. East, which is exactly where fans assumed they would be given their talent level and past performance. Though they haven't been able to quite shake themselves of the pesky Washington Nationals, the Braves have shown some signs of having what it takes to top the division, providing plenty of optimism as they head into the second half of the regular season. The Miami Marlins also don't seem to have a team that's going to go away, but the Braves have a balanced team that can win in a variety of different ways, making them a team that definitely should be there in the end to take a swing yet another divisional title.

Leading the way, of course, has been Justin Upton, who tops the team in both homers and RBIs at the halfway point and has provided a solid focal point in the heart of the lineup. Also having a very nice first half to the season was Freddie Freeman, who has shown that he can hit for both power and average – a difficult thing to accomplish at any stage in a career, but particularly for a talented young player still on the rise.

But keeping with the tradition of Braves' baseball, the reason why the Braves are once again right in the thick of it is because of its pitching staff. Julio Teheran has been shutting down offenses consistently throughout the first half of the season, leading all starters in ERA in the process, but both Aaron Harang and Ervin Santana have also provided significant sparks. Then there's Craig Kimbrel, who continues to be one of the filthiest pitchers to come out of the bullpen in the entire league. With some promising young stars and a complete team that can do a little bit of everything, the Braves and their fans will be looking to make yet another run at the playoffs in the second half of the season.

Braves Update – Week of June 6

So far, the 2014 season is playing out exactly like most Braves' fans had anticipated, as Atlanta is showing that they have one of the most complete roster in the game and they remain one of the most consistent teams in all of Major League Baseball. While some of the other talented teams in the N.L. East have struggled to bring home the wins, the Braves have been the gold standard in the division so far, opening up a nice little lead by the early portion of June as they move towards the Midsummer Classic.

And the Braves recently showed exactly why they're so dangerous, not to mention resilient. After getting swept in a tough four-game series against the Red Sox, the Braves headed to Miami and took three straight against the Marlins, getting them back onto a new winning streak and showing that they aren't they kind of team that's going to let a few losses get them down. One of the main reasons, of course, is their well-balanced pitching staff that remains just about as good as it gets. With Julio Teheran holding a team-best 1.83 ERA through his first 12 starts of the season and Ervin Santana showing that he still can be as good as anyone when he's on, the current Braves' pitching staff is continuing the tradition of dominant starting pitching that has been a staple of the franchise.

Offensively, Justin Upton has also been rock solid in the heart of the order and so has Freddie Freeman, who has been very patient at the plate and is starting to make a real name for himself at the age of just 24. With Craig Kimbrel slamming the door at the back end of the bullpen and the Braves getting offense from a variety of different sources, the Braves are once again looking like the team to beat in the N.L. East.

Braves Update – Week of May 2nd

After one of the best months of April in the entire league, the Braves take their 17-9 record on to May, where fans hope they'll continue their early-season success with plenty of victories as they look to keep their stranglehold on the N.L. East. With series wins against the Marlins, Brewers, Nats (twice, actually), Mets, Reds and Phillies, the Braves have beaten everyone in front of them so far, making them one of just two teams in the National League to win at least 65% of their April games.

Of course, a major part of this success has been because of the pitching staff, as the Braves are in the top five in all of the major team pitching categories. With the best ERA in the league, the Braves have been simply unbelievable all the way through their staff, making it very difficult for the opposition to get even a two-game winning streak against the Braves so far this season. Much of the dominance on the mound has come from Julio Teheran, who leads the team with a 1.47 ERA and putting up quality starts in all six of his outings. Teheran isn't alone in his domination, though, as Ervin Santana has been all but unhittable with a 3-0 record and an ERA below 2.00 through the first month of the season.

In the batter's box, Justin Upton is off to a great start, leading the team in batting average (.326), homers (8), RBIs (16) and on-base percentage (.400). Freddie Freeman has also been a major factor as well, batting.320 in April and topping the team with 32 total hits in just 20 games. With a strong offense, a formidable starting rotation and Craig Kimbrel slamming the door shut coming out of the bullpen, the Braves look like they're in great position to continue pulling down wins while holding on to their spot atop the N.L. East.

2014 Atlanta Braves Schedule

Loaded with another talented team that is licking the chops as they take aim at all the other powerhouses in the National League this season, the Braves have one of the most potent rosters in the league and have been giving fans plenty of reasons for optimism recently. The Braves are coming off a very good 2013 season in which they were able to finish atop the National League East division standings. While the Braves were unable to capture the National League Pennant, Atlanta has their sights set on a World Series appearance in 2014, and fans who know how talented this team are also know that their chances are very good. This should be a great season to head out to the ballpark to see the Braves take to the diamond on person.

Of course, they'll plenty of steep competition along the way. The Braves won the division in 2013, but the Washington Nationals took home the N.L. East crown the year prior, and played pretty well last season after a slow start. The Nationals have a killer pitching staff and a lineup that features some really talented sluggers, and they could be a threat to the Braves' effort to repeat as division champs. That's why the games are sure to be hotly contested when the Nats visit the Braves this season at Turner Field.

Other division rivals will be visiting Turner Field on a regular basis in 2014, so whenever the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies or Miami Marlins come to town, it's sure to be a series filled with exciting hardball action. There's nothing better than seeing a division rivalry come to fruition right before your very eyes when you're seated right there in the stadium. This is just one of those sports that springs to a completely different level when you get a chance to see it first-hand as the Braves look to pile up the wins and make a big move up the standings once again this season. Once you're there, with the game on the line and the Braves digging in, you'll definitely be glad that you're not sitting anywhere else – not that you'll be thinking about you seat.

Atlanta Braves Team Info

The Atlanta Braves play in the National League East division of Major League Baseball, a division that also features the Washington Nationals, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins. The Braves were able to win the division title in 2013 thanks to a roster filled with solid players through and through. The Braves are looking to repeat as N.L. East champs this season, but that's never an easy task when you've got divisional foes like these lurking. The Braves have loads of talent on the roster, and a bevy of young players that seem to be coming into their own as pros. Thanks to players like the Uptons and Jason Heyward in the outfield, Dan Uggla in the infield and hurlers like David Carpenter on the mound, this is a squad that you definitely don't want to miss out on this season.

The MLB Experience

Baseball is a special sports for those that call the United States of America home, and that has been the case for a long, long time. Baseball traces its roots all the way back to the 1800s, and it helped lay the foundation of this country. That's why people love to head out to the ballpark to catch a game as often as possible. Major League Baseball has the best baseball players in the world, and each fan can see their favorite team play in their home stadium at least 81 times each season. Fans love to head out to the stadium to be a part of the action, and that's something you can be part of as well. When you're there in the stands with the game on the line in a nail-biter, you'll see why this is America's Pastime and a game that is still as good today as it ever was.

Atlanta Braves History

The Atlanta Braves franchise was founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. The organization went through many name incarnations before temporarily settling on the Boston Braves in 1941. 11 years later, though, the team would move to Milwaukee and eventually to Atlanta in 1966. The Braves have had a lot of great seasons over the year and have seen some of the best players in the history of Major League Baseball don a Braves uniform. The franchise has earned an astounding 17 National League pennants and three World Series titles over the years, providing plenty of thrills and bringing plenty of all-time greats to the franchise, including Hank Aaron, Hugh Duffy, Andruw Jones, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux and many more.

Atlanta Braves Trivia

Who holds the Braves franchise record for the most home runs in a single season?

The answer is Andrew Jones, who hit 51 homers in 2005. But Jones was also not just a beast in the batter's box, as he ended up winning 10 Gold Gloves and cementing himself as one of the greatest defensive players of all-time.

The Fans

Fans of the Atlanta Braves love to do the chop with their Braves in a big situation late in the game. When a team hears the home crowd behind them, there's just something about it that makes a player try a little harder, and that could make all the different in a game like baseball, which can be determined by an inch or two. The fans know that they can help the team by cheering with everything they've got, and you can be a part of it this season when you head out to a Braves game at Turner Field.

But even though home games are musts for fans, it's also something to head out to an exciting road matchup as well, as you'll see your Braves from a completely different angle as they look to give the home team fits. As soon as you're there watching the big game the way it was meant to be seen, home or on the road, you'll never look at Major League Baseball the same way ever again.
