Atlanta Dream Schedule

As summer approaches there are plenty of things to be excited about: warm weather, vacation opportunities, and the start of the WNBA season. Nowhere is the excitement surrounding WNBA basketball more palpable than in Atlanta, home to the Dream, one of the top franchises in the entire league. In recent years, the Dream have proven to be among the best in the league, having made repeated trips to the WNBA Finals, but coming up just short of bringing a championship home to the ATL. This year it looks like the Dream may have made just the right adjustments to the lineup to finally be able to breakthrough and take their long awaited spots on the throne as the queens of the WNBA. Be sure to get in on all of the action of the 2014 Atlanta Dream schedule courtesy of tickets from StubHub.

The home schedule kicks off on May 16th at Phillips Arena when the San Antonio Silver Stars come to town. True fans will want to be there at the home opener to show the team gratitude for an excellent 2013 season as well as to get the 2014 season started in the right way. Many of the best teams in the league will be coming to Phillips Arena to take on the Dream including: the Indiana Fever, the Seattle Storm, the Los Angeles Sparks, the Chicago Sky, the Minnesota Lynx, the Washington Mystics, the New York Liberty, the Connecticut Sun, the Phoenix Mercury, and the Tulsa Shock. Take a look at the schedule, pick out a game you can attend, and buy tickets from StubHub to show your support for the Dream this year.

About the Team

Since 2010 the Dream have been one of the most successful teams in the WNBA, having made it to the WNBA Finals in 2010, 2011, and 2013. In 2010 the Dream lost to the Seattle Storm while in 2011 and 2013 they fell to the Minnesota Lynx. You can be sure that Ruth Riley, Tiffany Hayes, and the rest will be looking to finally get over that hump and win the Finals in 2014. If there is a team the Dream will be looking to beat more than any other in the 2014 season it will be the Minnesota Lynx who have kept them from the Promised Land in two of the last three seasons so keep an eye out for those match ups and make sure you are in the arena for these big games. Coach Fred Williams seems to know just what subtle changes to make to the line up to get the most out of his teams and will surely continue to do so in 2014 as the Dream will light up the scoreboard.

The Experience

In the past several years women's professional basketball has been growing exponentially in popularity and this is evident by the crowds that fill the arenas for each game. Phillips Arena is one of the most exciting arenas in all of WNBA basketball and on game day the electricity in the air is enough to get even the most casual basketball fan bouncing off the walls. As the teams take the court for the opening tip off fans stand up and refuse to sit down until the home team scores. The game continues, full of back and forth action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. Before you know it the clock is winding down in the second half and the Dream are wrapped up in yet another tight contest. Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the floor and each time a Dream player lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine. This continues until the final buzzer when the crowd erupts after another important Atlanta win and the crowd flows out of the arena in jubilation.

The WNBA was founded in 1996 and has been growing in popularity every year. Many of the teams in the WNBA have NBA counterparts, although the Connecticut Sun and the Seattle Storm play in cities which do not currently have NBA teams. When the league first started all of the teams were owned by the NBA but as a sign of the growth of the league now both the Atlanta Dream and the Los Angeles Sparks are independently owned. The Houston Comets currently lead the way in terms of titles with four, although the Minnesota Lynx have won two, including two of the last three championships and could soon be giving the Comets a run for their money.

The Atlanta Dream play their home games at Phillips Arena which is also home to the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, however, when the Dream made it all the way to the 2013 WNBA Finals they were unable to play their home games in the series at Phillips Arena due to a scheduling conflict and were forced to play at nearby Gwinnett Arena.
