Auburn Tigers Football Schedule

The Auburn Tigers are on the prowl for victories this season, and this team is motivated to take down some of the best teams in the SEC and the country. Playing in the SEC always makes for a tough schedule for this team, but they often prove to be up to the challenge. Their home schedule is stacked with good teams yet again in 2014, so they're going to need their loyal fans to show up at Jordan-Hare Stadium in a big way this season.

The Tigers have a huge game on October 4th when they host another team of Tigers, those of LSU. The LSU Tigers often have one of the best teams in the SEC, and any match-up with them is sure to be taken seriously by Auburn. On November 8th the Tigers will face another tough home game when the Texas A&M Aggies visit Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Aggies will be without quarterback Johnny Manziel, as he left for the pro game, but this team is sure to still be a top contender in the SEC. These are just two games of several that the Tigers will face at home this season.

Auburn Tigers Football History

The Auburn Tigers football program was founded way back in 1892, and the Tigers have put together many a memorable season since then. The Tigers play in the SEC, the toughest football conference in the country. The Auburn football team has taken home 11 conference titles to date, including three when they played in the SIAA and one in the Southern Conference, as well as seven in the SEC. The Tigers play home games at the Jordan-Hare Stadium, which boasts a capacity of 87,451.

Auburn Tigers Football Rivalries

It's no surprise that SEC teams give the Auburn Tigers the most amount of competition year in and year out, and there are several huge rivalries that have sparked up between the Tigers and other SEC powerhouse teams. The Tigers have one of the biggest rivalries in college football with the Georgia Bulldogs in what is known as the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry, as these two teams have faced each other nearly annually on the football field since 1892. The Bulldogs and Tigers have played each other more than 115 times to date (and counting), with each and every game a thrilling one for fans of either team. The Auburn Tigers are also a big rival of the Alabama Crimson Tide, where they play in the series dubbed the Iron Bowl, and this big game takes place every year during Thanksgiving Day weekend, when college football reigns supreme on national television. Another big rival of Auburn's is the LSU Tigers, and these two teams with similar mascots face off in the Tiger Bowl, which dates back to the early 1930s. Other non-SEC rivals of the Auburn Tigers include Georgia Tech, Tulane and Clemson.

Great Players in Auburn Tigers Football History

As one of few teams in the NCAA that have won more than one national championship, the Auburn Tigers are known for producing big football stars that go onto pro football fame. Auburn is especially known for its top crop of running backs that make it big in the NFL, with former Auburn backs such as Tucker Frederickson, Joe Cribbs, Ben Tate, Bo Jackson, Kevin McCleod, Brandon Jacobs, Lionel James and Ronnie Brown all going on to play in the NFL. Other big name players to make it out of Auburn and into the NFL include Cam Newton, Nick Fairley, Quentin Groves, Ben Grubbs, Jason Campbell, Brandon Mosley, Onterio McCalebb and more. With all of the talent oozing out of the Auburn roster, it is somewhat surprising that the Tigers have only retired the jerseys of three former players: No. 7 for quarterback Pat Sullivan, No. 88 for receiver Terry Beasley and No. 34 for legendary running back Bo Jackson.

Auburn Tigers Football Trivia

What's the big deal about the Heisman Trophy?

The annual award is the highest NCAA football award given to the top player on the college circuit every year, and the honor is such a prestigious one that even some of the most talented players in the NFL have never won the trophy. The Auburn Tigers have seen three players in their ranks win the Heisman, however. Quarterback Pat Sullivan took home the Heisman in the 1971 season, setting a precedent for the Tigers. The great Bo Jackson took home the Heisman in 1985, and it took another 15 years for Auburn to get another Heisman winner, when quarterback Cam Newton took home the trophy in 2010. Several teams in the NCAA, regardless of their dominance in whatever conference they're part of, still haven't claimed a Heisman winner, so Auburn's three Heisman Trophy winners are living proof that the Tigers are one of the very best teams in the NCAA and continue to pass on their dominance year after year on the college football circuit.
