Auburn Tigers Basketball Schedule
The Auburn Tigers basketball team has been in existence for almost 100 years,
dating all the way back to 1905. While the football team garners most of the national attention for the university, the men's
basketball team is exciting in its own right. Several former Auburn Tigers have gone on to successful NBA careers, most notably
basketball legend Charles Barkley. The Tigers have gone to eight NCAA Tournaments with the last trip being in 2003. After
the end of the 2013-2014 season the Tigers scored a big win off the court with the signing of superstar coach Bruce Pearl
who will be turning things around quickly for the Tigers starting in the 2014-2015 season. It shouldn't be long before the
Tigers are recognized as one of the true basketball powerhouses in the SEC right alongside perennial favorites like Kentucky
Things will not be easy in the SEC for the Tigers as they will be playing 18 regular season conference
games against teams like Missouri, Alabama, and Florida who went undefeated in conference play last season. This is of course
not to mention Kentucky who made it to the National Championship Game last season and will bring in a top ranked recruiting
class once again combining with returning players to make them an early popular preseason top ranked team. Things are clearly
on the up swing for Auburn after the hiring of Bruce Pearl and the 2014-2015 season could be a turn around year for the Tigers,
especially if they can pull off some big upsets during conference play.
Everyone involved in
Auburn Tigers basketball, from the coaches and players to the fans and faculty, has high hopes for the future of Auburn basketball
after the arrival of the charismatic and talented Bruce Pearl to campus. After seeing what he has previously done in the SEC
with Tennessee there is no reason not to believe that the Tigers have hired the right man to turn this into a winning program.
The Tigers were last in the NCAA Tournament in 2003 when they made it to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to Syracuse and they
have not been in the post season since 2009 when they made it to the quarterfinals of the NIT. The long postseason drought
has been interminable for Tigers fans but Bruce Pearl and a talented returning core appear more than capable of turning it
around in the 2014-2015 season.
Auburn Tigers Basketball Conference
While the SEC has long been known
for its college football, basketball has always been a big deal in the conference as well and in recent years several schools
have stepped up their game making it extremely difficult for a team to navigate the tough conference schedule. Perennial powerhouses
Florida and Tennessee always are staunch competition and with the recent development of programs like Ole Miss, Auburn, and
Alabama, the conference is only getting tougher. Altogether the SEC has won eleven National Championships with Kentucky leading
the way with eight. Florida has won two national titles, back to back championships in 2006 and 2007, and Arkansas won one
in 1994 Playing such a tough regular season schedule annually leaves the teams from the SEC who are selected for the Tournament
ready to take on any college in the country and allows for even some of the lower seeds to pull off big time upsets. When
it comes to college sport there is arguably no conference that is historically better or more dominant than the SEC.
College basketball is an experience like no other. Featuring some of the best student athletes
in the world along with some of the most passionate fans in all of sports, the games have an atmosphere that is unrivaled.
When you set foot into Auburn Arena for an Auburn Tigers home basketball game this will all be clear. As the teams set up
for opening tip off the fans stand up and vociferously cheer for their alma mater and hometown favorites. The game continues
full of back and forth action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. Before you know it the clock is winding down in
the second half and the two sides are wrapped up in yet another tight contest. Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the
floor and each time a player from your favorite team lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine.
This continues until the final buzzer when the Tigers' side erupts after another big win and their fans flow out of the arena
Several former Auburn Tigers have gone on to achieve significant success in the
NBA including Wesley Person, Marquis Daniels, Moochie Norris and Charles Barkley who has been inducted to the Basketball Hall
of Fame twice, once for his individual accomplishments on the court and a second time as a member of the Dream Team.
