About Audra McDonald
Audra would demonstrate a knack for performing at a young age, enrolling
in an Arts program and studying acting while still attending high school in Fresno, California. She would matriculate into
the Juilliard school, studying classical voice, a perfect complement to her former experience with the acting troupe Dan Pessano
and the Good Company Players. After graduating in the early 90s, McDonald would make her way into the heart of the performance
world with multiple appearances in plays and musicals, including renditions of classics such as Ragtime and carousel.
would rise to prominence at a meteoric pace, attaining six Tony awards within a decade of hitting the stage performance scene.
Her Tony's would be awarded for her roles in works such as Master Class, A Raisin in the Sun, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess,
and Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. She would also dabble in television, racking up multiple trips to the Emmys, underscoring
her versatility as a performer. McDonald spent her time both on and off broadway, eventually becoming the first person to
accrue Tony awards in every acting category.
Despite her extensive retinue of performance greatness, Audra frequently
branches out into other performance mediums, performing concerts throughout the world either as a standalone artist or in
collaboration with various orchestras and choirs. She has performed at many of the most coveted venues the world has to offer,
from Houston's Grand Opera to Carnegie Hall. She has been releasing full length records since the late 90s on the Nonesuch
Record label, integrating a variety of sounds that stem from classical to fusion jazz to new age pop.
To top off her
already impossibly impressive resume, Audra has spent years in the acting world, with notable appearances across the 90s and
00s in films and series such as HBO's Wit, Law & Order: SVU, Mister Sterling, The Bedford Diaries, Grey's Anatomy, and
the HBO documentary Six by Sondheim. From lighting up broadway to the silver screen, Audra McDonald remains one of the single
