Autzen Stadium History
In the late 1950s, Oregon athletic director Leo Harris started a campaign that would eventually
lead to the construction of Autzen Stadium, and the stadium was built over the refuse from an artificial landfill. This idea
allowed the facility to be finished within nine months at a cost only $2.5 million. It was named after Portland businessman
and philanthropist Thomas J. Autzen, who was an alumnus of Oregon State University, the biggest athletic rival of the University
of Oregon. Since then, it has become the place to watch college football and has seen some amazing matchups take place there.
The popular college football television program "Gameday" has filmed multiple of their Saturday shows from this stadium.
the Ducks first set foot inside Autzen Stadium, fans haven't been able to get enough of the adrenaline-pumping action that
can be found every time the Ducks take to the field. Over the years, the stadium has undergone several expansions and renovations
to make it even more fan-friendly. In 2008, the stadium replaced outdated video screens with a 33 x 85 foot high-definition
LED scoreboard that the fans loving call Duck Vision. A new logo was emblazoned onto the FieldTurf during the 2010 season,
giving the stadium a new feel. This venue will continue to host some of the most exciting college football games of the season
each and every year.
