Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial PGA Tour
The PGA Tour has a long and storied history
that dates all the way back to 1929, but it was not until 1968 after a dispute over the division of increased revenue due
to television contracts that it split from the PGA to deal only with tour players rather than additionally work as an organization
for club professionals. As part of the PGA Tour, Crowne Plaza Invitational is one of the most important invitational tournaments
in professional golf. The tournament made its debut in 1946 and in the decades since its founding has become an integral part
of the PGA Tour as well as one of the most popular and watched tournaments in all of golf. The 2014 tournament provided the
winner, Adam Scott, with a purse of $1,152,000 which helped him move up the standings considerably as the golfer with the
most winnings for the season. The purse increases each year and the 2015 tournament should provide even more money to the
golfer who comes out on top.
Sure it can be fun and relaxing to watch professional golf
on a nice flatscreen television back at home, but you don't really get a feel for the action and an understanding of the elements
the golfers are battling unless you are out on the links. Spending a lovely Spring day outside walking a beautiful course
and seeing the best golfers in the world do battle against one another is an experience you will never forget and will likely
have you never wanting to settle for watching from your couch ever again. As the days and holes wear on, the tension builds
and each stroke becomes more and more vital. The nervous tension in the air builds and this can be felt both by the golfers
swinging their clubs and the fans following them from hole to hole holding their breath with each approach to the ball.
Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Trivia
One of the most memorable moments in the history of the tournament
came in its inaugural contest when hometown golf icon Ben Hogan won the event for the first of his record setting five titles.
Crowne Plaza Invitational has a unique tradition known as Champion's Choice in which former champions get together to choose
two young golfers who were not eligible to compete to join the tournament. The Scottish tartan plaid jacket worn by the champion
as well as the overseers of the tournament was chosen as a way to honor the proud history of the sport, while the Wall of
Champions is engraved with the score of each winner dating all the way back to the first winner back in the 1940′s.
