Barbara Kingsolver was born in Annapolis, Maryland and spent part her youth in Africa with her father, a medical doctor.
Studying at DePauw in Indiana, she graduated with a degree in biology before earning a Master's in ecology and evolutionary
biology at U of A. in 1986 she won an Arizona Press Club Award and published her first novel, "The Beat Trees,"
two years later.
Well known for her themed work of community, economic injustice and cultural difference, Barbara Kingsolver's work includes
the novels "Animal Dreams," "Pigs in Heaven," "The Poisonwood Bible," and "Prodigal Summer"
as well as several non-fiction stories. As 1998's "Poisonwood Bible" earned her the National Book Prize of South
Africa and was shortlisted for a Pulitzer Prize; Barbara Kingsolver tickets are
