BBVA Compass Stadium History
The desire for a soccer specific stadium for the Houston Dynamo dates back long before
the team even became the Dynamo. Dating back to when they were the San Jose Earthquakes, the franchise had been searching
for the opportunity to build their dream stadium in San Jose, but the plans never came through and ownership moved the entire
franchise to Houston. Becoming the Houston Dynamo in 2006 meant cutting ties with their past in the Bay Area and starting
fresh as a expansion team. It would take 6 more years, but BBVA Compass Stadium finally opened in May 2012 to much fanfare.
The stadium sits just off downtown Houston with beautiful view of the city skyline seen from thousands of seats. Don't miss
your chance to visit one of the truly breathtaking sporting venues for yourself when you visit Houston.
