BC Place Stadium History
Ever since BC Place Stadium in Vancouver first opened in the early 1980s, this has been
a venue that has had a little bit of everything, from prominent concerts from superstars to a steady string of Canadian Football
League games that routinely bring in fans by the tens of thousands. It is the largest event facility of its kind in the province
and has hosted mover 30 million people since beginning operations in 1983, making it a staple of the local entertainment scene

Originally constructed in preparation for the 1986 World's Fair,
Expo 86, the original structure contained the world's largest air-supported domed stadium, which was later replaced by a retractable
roof. Although the arena was built partly to be a place to hold some of the most intense sporting events in North America,
the facility's first event was an address by Pope John Paul II. The arena has also seen appearances from other important guests
including their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles and Princess Diana who officially opened the World's Fair in 1986 and Michael
