Belle and Sebastian Background
This incredible indie pop group's roots date back
to 1996, when Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David started recording demos at Stow College. The college's Music Business course
had its own label, Electric Honey, which produced one single each year. Once they heard Belle and Sebastian's demos, Electric
Honey decided to let them record a full-length album, which the label would then produce. The end result was Tigermilk, a
full-length album that has received incredible critical acclaim over the years. Initially, only one thousand copies were produced
on vinyl, all of which sold quickly and are now worth upwards of $600 each.
With such great success and praise after
their first album, both Murdoch and David decided that they needed to round out their group with a full band, so they brought
on musicians Stevie Jackson, Isobel Campbell, Chris Geddes, and Richard Colburn. In 1996, Jeepster Records signed this indie
group from Glasgow, who released their second album, If You're Feeling Sinister, shortly after. Spin named this record among
the top 100 greatest albums of the past 20 years, and is still considered the band's most incredible work to this day. Throughout
the years, Belle and Sebastian has been one of the most critically acclaimed indie groups around. In 1999, they won a BRIT
award for Best Newcomer, and they have scored significant praise from music critics all over the world. As Belle and Sebastian
