Berlin took shape at
the creative hands of David Diamond (keyboard player); John Crawford (bassist) and Terri Nunn (singer) in Orange County, California.
Their debut track was called "A Matter of Time" and was issued in 1979. In 1980, the single was re-released with Virginia
Macolino taking lead vocals. Nunn departed from the band for a brief period to embark on a career as an actor. The album Information
arrived next. The band initially had a rocky start because they didn't fit in with the power pop bands that dominated the
era. Nunn returned to Berlin in 1980 at which time they inked a deal with Enigma Records. The seductive "Sex (I'm A...)" came
out in 1982. The track was barred for its explicit lyrics by some radio stations. However, the tune was composed with the
intent of having it played on KROQ of L.A., which held the reputation of spinning music that was unique and not overplayed
in the mainstream. The single garnered more popularity than the band anticipated and larger record labels courted Berlin to
release Pleasure Victim EP. The band took Geffen Records' offer and Pleasure Victim was re-issued anddropped globally at the
beginning of 1983. The albums additionally featured "The Metro," which turned out to be a hit as well. A year later, Love
Life came out with the track, "No More Words." "No More Words" cracked the Top 20. In 1986, "Take My Breath Away" landed and
became a top-selling single and a colossal hit internationally. A year later, Berlin members split up. Eventually, Nunn claimed
the rights to perform under the band's name and reformed the band with a fresh lineup in 1998. A year later, Berlin supported
The Go-Go's on their reunion tour. At the beginning of the new millennium, Berlin lent their talents to multiple artist tribute
albums. And, later on, the VH1 show Bands Reunited, brought most of the original members back to the stage for an exclusive
show hosted at The Roxy in California. In 2011, the band tagged along on a tour with INXS. Most recently, Berlin's album,
Animal, arrived in 2012, featuring the track, "It's The Way."
New wave group Berlin started
cranking out music in the late '70s. Their discography is comprised of two live albums, six compilation albums, four video
albums, nine music videos, 17 singles and seven studio albums. Their studio albums include: Information (1980); Pleasure Victim
(1982, 1983); Love Life (1984); Count 3 & Pray (1986); Voyeur (2002); 4Play (2005); and Animal (2013).
Did you know that powerhouse vocalist Terri Nunn auditioned for the part of Leia Organa in the Star Wars movie?
Yep, it's true. Nunn left Berlin for a stint to pursue a career in acting. She then resumed her role at the helm of Berlin,
and fans were glad that she did!
