Beth Hart Background
Raised in Los Angeles, Hart discovered her love for music
when she was just four years old. After hearing Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on a TV commercial, she went to her piano and
played part of the song from memory. It was at that moment that her family recognized her star ability, and that Hart recognized
her love of performing. While she initially thought she would just learn how to play classical piano, she soon discovered
her strong vocals, and began to take opera lesions with a voice coach. After working with Hart extensively, Hart's voice coach
encouraged her to drop opera and pursue a less restricting form of singing, since musical improvisation was one of Hart's
Once Hart strayed away from classical piano and opera, she started to explore other musical influences,
such as jazz, blues, gospel, and grunge. She made her way onto the LA club scene, playing several times a week at different
music venues around the city to try and garner a fan base or to attract the attention of producers and managers. In 1993,
Hart had a stroke of musical luck when she appeared on Ed McMahon's Star Search, a television competition often referred to
as American Idol's predecessor. Her performances on the show earned her the victory of the best Female Vocalist in the competition,
a win that helped her gain an edge over the other musical hopefuls that crowded Los Angeles.
After years of working
hard to achieve her dream, she signed to Lava/143/Atlantic Records thanks to the admiration of Jason Flom and David Foster.
Hart's career started to gain momentum with the release of her 1996 album, Immortal, which contained hit singles like "Am
I The One". A few years later, Hart released the album that she believes helped her find her own artistic sound, Screamin'
For My Supper.
Sadly, this newfound success couldn't pull her back from the brink of disaster. Due to her unmedicated
bipolar disorder and her drug use, Atlantic Records dropped her from the label. It took a couple of years, but Hart recognized
her loss and became sober and drug-free with the help of her road manager, Scott Guetzkow. In 2003, Hart began her comeback,
releasing new albums and touring extensively throughout the U.S., the UK, and Europe. Since then, Hart's career has only continued
to flourish, and she feels that she has finally settled into her skin as a singer and a writer. Her soul-bearing concerts
continue to create buzz all around the world, and fortunately for you, she has new shows lined up for this June. So make sure
