The Big Sky Conference is an NCAA Division I member in all sports, established in 1963, and has just welcomed a ninth member, the University of Northern Colorado. The current lineup includes Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State and Weber State. It's not exactly hard to imagine that there are some unbelievable basketball rivalries that have developed over the years between these schools, and the real benefactors of all of that would be the fans, who have an array or top-tier matchups to choose from every single season in the Big Sky.

Big Sky Basketball History

Overall, it's been Montana and Weber State that has been the best of the best when it comes to tournament dominance in the Big Sky, as both programs have notched nine different tournament wins in their illustrious program histories. It was Montana that was alone at number one after winning it all in 2012 and 2013, but Weber State came roaring back and took down the tournament in 2014, squaring it all back up between the two schools. Idaho State, Northern Arizona, Montana State and Portland State have all also won multiple tournament titles as well, and this is a conference with a nice mix of powerhouses and up-and-coming programs that makes it a conference that you absolutely have to keep your eye on.

Big Sky Basketball Trivia

Did you know that Weber State has now won a tournament every decade since the 1970s?

Winning their first tournament title in 1978, the Wildcats have been the most consistently strong program in the conference since the early days, steadily winning tournament titles throughout the years and making them always one of the favorites to put together a dynasty. The Wildcats were also particularly dominant in that early stretch, winning four different conference tournament titles in between 1978 and 1983.
