Did you know that the Big 10, formerly the Western Conference, is the oldest athletic conference
in the entire country?
All the way back in the 1890s, the visionaries in college athletics got together to form the
Western Conference, with Wisconsin, Michigan, Purdue, Chicago, Northwestern, Illinois and Minnesota all joining as founding
members. These days things are quite a bit different than back then, but the tradition in this conference runs very deep,

when it was known as the Big Nine. But when Michigan State joined the conference in 1949, the modern day Big 10 came to fruition,
