Big Ten Basketball Tournament Schedule

There is arguably nothing more exciting in the world of sports than tournament time in college basketball, and true college hoops fanatics know that all of the madness starts the week before the NCAA Tournament when the conference tournaments take place. Of all the conference tournaments held in March, the Big Ten is always one of the most competitive and entertaining. The Big Ten is regularly one of the best conferences in college basketball and any basketball tournament featuring the likes of Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State, and others is sure to be full of heart-pounding excitement. This year Michigan State will be looking to defend their tournament title but they will face stiff competition by all of the other Big Ten schools, particularly Wisconsin who will be returning several key players from a squad that made it all the way to the Final Four last season.

This year the Big Ten Tournament will be held at the United Center in Chicago and you can expect fans from all of the Big Ten schools to be flocking to the Windy City to show support for their favorite teams. For some schools the conference tournament is their last chance to make it into the field during the NCAA Tournament, whether by earning some more hard-fought victories against quality opponents or by winning the whole thing and earning an automatic bid. Big Ten Basketball

The Big Ten has long been one of the top conferences in all of college basketball and in recent years there has arguably been no better from top to bottom. At the start of the 2014-2015 season the conference will get even deeper with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers, two teams who have strong basketball traditions. Schools like Michigan State and Indiana have long struck fear in the hearts of their opponents and schools like Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and others have risen to the top of the NCAA basketball ranks in recent years making the Big Ten even tougher. All in all Big Ten teams have won ten National Championships with Indiana leading the way with five. Each year since 1978 the Big Ten has been the conference with the highest attendance in all of college basketball which proves the dedication and passion of fans in the conference. Playing such a tough regular season schedule followed by a tough conference tournament each year helps prepare any Big Ten teams heading to the NCAA Tournament and often allows its schools to pull off big upsets. When it comes to college hoops there is no better place to be than in the Big Ten.

The Experience

Nothing in sports equals the thrill of seeing an big time college basketball game and when you attend a conference tournament you get to see several games all of which are do or die. Featuring many of the best student athletes in college athletics as well as some of the most loyal and passionate fans in all of sports, these games have an atmosphere that is unrivaled. When you step into the United Center for the Big Ten Conference Basketball Tournament this will all be abundantly clear. As the teams prepare for the opening tip off, fans stand up and enthusiastically root on their favorite team. The game continues with back and forth action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. Before you know it the clock is winding down in the second half and the two sides are wrapped up in yet another historic Big Ten Conference Basketball Tournament game. You become filled with nervous with each trip down the court and every time a player from your favorite team lets go of a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine. This continues until the final buzzer when the winning team rejoices. Next thing you know, another game is starting and you get to experience all of the action once again. Each day the intensity builds and the fans grow even more enthusiastic as the elusive conference tournament championship and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid draws closer and closer. Results from the regular season hardly matter anymore as every team is laying it all on the line to advance as far as possible.

NCAA Basketball Conference Tournaments

Conference tournaments are perhaps even more exciting than the NCAA Tournament itself as it features long time rivals who have already played each other once or twice this season and simply do not like one another. School pride is on the line as teams that eliminate one another during the tournament will have bragging rights entering the next season. Additionally, teams that have lost any chance of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament the following week have one more shot of making the field by winning it all and earning an automatic bid.

The first Big Ten Tournament was held in 1998 and the winner has earned an automatic tournament bid every year since. Four Big Ten Tournament champions have gone on to reach the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament, Michigan State who did so back to back in 1999 and 2000 and won it all in 2000, Illinois in 2005, and Ohio State in 2007.
