Bilal is a renowned recording artist, producer and musician who began performing in jazz and big-band arrangements while still studying at the Mannes Music Conservatory before moving to bigger venues, including work with film soundtracks (his “Soul Sista” is on the Love & Basketball soundtrack) and creating hooks for Common (“The 6th Sense”). Bilal Sayeed Oliver started performing in local Philadelphia, PA jazz clubs before he began training at the Mannes Music Conservatory in New York. Once he was formally trained in opera he began debuting his material, initially Ist Born Second, an album that comprised 17 tracks written, performed and produced entirely by Bilal. The artist has since worked with Common and produced for Erykah Badu. He is part of the Soulquarians collection along with Mos Def, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Q-Tip and D’Angelo.
