Black Rock City History
Black Rock City is the site for the annual Burning Man music festival. Burning Man has
become one of the most popular music festivals in the United States, but it was not always the case. This event began in 1986
as a ceremony to celebrate the Summer Solstice, and it included a major bonfire that eventually gave the event its name. Black
Rock City is the name for the venue created on a dry lake in the Black Rock Desert where the event is held. This "city" is
set up by event organizers each year. The event really began to gain traction in the late 1990s, and by 2011 the festival
saw 50,000 people show up to enjoy the festivities. The Burning Man festival is organized by Black Rock City, LLC, under the
guidance of founder Larry Harvey. Black Rock City provides a steady stream of entertainment for all visitors for eight days
and nights. So what are you waiting for? Round up all your friends and head out to the desert this summer to be a part of
an event that you'll never forget.
