Bob Dylan Background

Bob Dylan, whose name at birth was Robert Allen Zimmerman, was born in Minnesota. At an early age, he started to develop a love for music, and was particularly inspired by artists like Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley. He spent much of his youth listening to blues, country, and rock radio stations, creating an eclectic mix of genres that would soon help him create his own unique sound. While in high school, he joined various cover bands, where he would sing and imitate Elvis and Little Richard, honing his performing skills as he frequently entertained his audiences.

When Dylan graduated from high school and enrolled in the University of Minnesota, he was exposed to folk music, and he became instantly infatuated, claiming that it "was a more serious type of thing" than rock and roll. Dylan was attracted to the deeper meanings behind folk songs, and so he gradually started to test his skills at folk by performing at local coffee shops. It was during this period that he started introducing himself as "Bob Dylan" versus "Bob Zimmerman", and he dropped out of college after his first year in order to pursue his musical dreams.

After moving to New York City and performing at numerous music venues in Greenwich Village, even receiving rave reviews from critics in the New York Times. While Dylan's popularity began to grow, it wasn't until his 1963 album, Freewheelin', that he started to become an international star. The album featured some of the most important songs in folk rock history, such as "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" and "Blowin' in the Wind". By 1964, Bob Dylan had became such a star that he was playing around 200 shows a year, making him one of the most anticipated touring artists in the country. While he became known as the singer-songwriter of the protest movements, Bob Dylan also wrote songs that were introspective and not politically charged. No matter what subject material his songs dealt with, you could always expect Bob Dylan to produce some phenomenal tunes.

Over the course of his career, Bob Dylan has become a rock star. He has changed the course of folk rock music forever, and he also greatly impacted the social fabric of America with his protest songs and support of the Civil Rights movement. There have been very few artists as influential and acclaimed as Bob Dylan, and now you have the chance to see him perform live in concert. Don't miss out and grab your tickets on StubHub today!
