Boise State Broncos Football Schedule in 2014

The Boise State Broncos are ready to take to the field and face some of the top teams on the college football landscape this season. The Broncos have a team brimming with talented student-athletes that are ready to so whatever it takes to earn a victory in the name of school pride. The Broncos play in the Mountain West Conference, a league that is steadily growing in both popularity among fans and prestige in the sport. The Broncos are coming off a 2013 season in which the team fared well against Mountain West opponents, winning six of their eight contests against conference foes. The team was able to notch an 8-5 overall record, but the team knows that they can rise in the ranks of the conference with some more victories this time around. Some of the best teams in the sport of college football will be visiting Bronco Stadium this season, and Boise State is eager to send as many of them home with losses as possible. It should be another great year of Broncos football, one filled with premier matchups that will draw out the fans of the team in huge numbers.

The Broncos begin their Mountain West Conference home schedule on "The Blue", their famed blue turf, against the Nevada Wolf Pack at Bronco Stadium on October 4th. Boise State got the best of the Wolf Pack in 2013, but the Wolf Pack will no doubt be looking for revenge, especially in Boise in front of the home crowd. The Broncos did a lot right in 2013, from scoring better than 37 points per game to rushing for just shy of 200 yards per game. They will be looking to dominate their Mountain West opponents in every category in 2014, and this matchup with the Wolf Pack will be one step along their journey to the top.

The biggest road block for the Broncos' quest for the Mountain West title comes from the reigning conference champions, the Fresno State Bulldogs, who make their visit to Boise on October 18th. The Broncos were the best passing team in the NCAA in 2013, but are returning to MWC play in 2014 without their star quarterback, Derek Carr, who will be wearing an NFL jersey in 2014. The Broncos and the Bulldogs will be sure to bring their best to "The Blue" in Boise, knowing that this game in October will be a huge boost for the winner. Don't miss the chance to see two of the marquee teams in the Mountain West face off in this epic clash. There are plenty of other great matchups to check out in 2014 as well.

Boise State Broncos Football History

There is a long history of exceptional football at Boise State University, where the once mid-major school won a David and Goliath bowl game against one of the marquee college football programs in the sport's history. The Broncos first took to the field back in 1932 and have been competing with the best of the best ever since. Boise State has seen some extremely talented players don the blue and orange and many have gone on to great success at the next level. The most notable former Bronco to move on to the pro level is NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Dave Wilcox. Wilcox was drafted in the third round of the 1964 draft by the San Francisco 49ers after spending two years at Boise, and went on to seven Pro Bowls and was a two time All Pro. Wilcox spent his entire 10 year career with San Francisco, retiring in 1974, before being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000. Other notable Broncos to play at the professional level in the NFL are wide receiver Titus Young, running back Doug Martin, offensive tackle Ryan Clady and free safety Quintin Mikell.

Boise State Broncos Football Rivalries

Boise State is a top football program, and most top football programs have a spectacular fan base. The Broncos are certainly no exception in that department, as they've got a group of loyal fans that will amaze you with their dedication to the team. As with all successful sports programs, the Boise State Broncos have quite a few rivals who make the sports so thrilling for the players and fans. The biggest rival for the Broncos were their in-state rivals the University of Idaho Vandals, in a battle for what is known as the Governor's Trophy. The rivals competed in conference games as members of the Big Sky Conference, Big West Conference and Western Athletic Conference, but this rivalry that has spanned 40 games ended in 2010 when the Broncos made their move to the Mountain West Conference. With the absence of the Governor's Trophy, the Broncos clashes with the Nevada Wolfpack have become quite the rivalry. Like the rivalry with Idaho, the games against the Wolfpack have spanned many difference conferences, and now as members of the Mountain West Conference, these two teams clash in games that mean quite a bit.
