About The Show

A musical unlike any other, The Book of Mormon simultaneously takes on the topics of organized religion and musicals but without resorting to mean barbs or outright rudeness. Following the story of two positive but naive Mormon missionaries on their journey to Uganda as they attempt to spread the good word of the book of Mormon, the find themselves in situations that they never before would have imagined. Their attempts to share organized religion are spurned as the locals of Uganda have more important things to worry about such as AIDS, war, famine, and other such ailments that plague the area. The songs that are interspersed throughout the story range from wildly hilarious to incredibly hilarious, all while retaining a catchy tune that will inevitably leave them stuck in your head long after the show is over. And while the raunchiness may end up seeming as though the jokes with Mormons are mean-spirited, that is not the case as the characters are played to be real humans, not simply a caricature of what people think Mormons are like. This is a laugh riot show that has been making waves on the music scene, so make sure that you're not left behind and that you make it out to see it for yourself!

Breakthrough Performance

An absolute hit from the very start, it didn't take long for word to get out that The Book of Mormon was going to be the biggest musical spectacular that Broadway had seen in a long time. As is usual for Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the process in putting together The Book of Mormon was a ridiculously quick one that took everyone by storm! With only six weeks of both rehearsal and tech rehearsal, the show shot into previews on Broadway just before the full tour went into effect. One of the best selling shows on Broadway in its very first year, backers of the show made back their investments that totaled over eleven million in only nine months of performances. The show was such a success that it soon after went onto its first national tour of the country, taking it from Chicago to Los Angeles. With such amazing success there wasn't long before talks of a UK production went into effect.

The Book of Mormon Trivia

When Trey Parker and Matt Stone were still in the development phase of the Book of Mormon, people continually asked how they thought The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints would react, the would constantly reply that "they would be cool with it". Despite people insisting that there would be protests and arguments following the release of the production, Parker and Stone stayed the course and had faith that the church would be fine with it. In the end the church has almost embraced the musical, seeing it as a way to expand their reach with people.
