This Japanese experimental rock band formed in 1996 with drummer Nagata, vocalist Atsuo, bassist Takeshi and guitarist and vocalist Wata. Shortly after the band formed Nagata left, leaving the drumming duties to Atsuo. Since then, the band has been a solid three-piece band that has wowed crowds all over the country. They are considered experimental because they continue to add new elements to their music, evolving over time. They don't associate with one musical genre, but are heavily influenced by bands like Sleep, Nick Cave, Nick Drake, Venom and the Melvins. They emerged in the Japanese hardcore punk scene, but soon realized that they didn't fit this niche. They branched out to more indie rock-type stylings, and released their first album on the indie label Inoxia Records. While they struggled to find an audience in Japan, re-releases of their albums in the US have become increasingly popular. Their 2005 album, Pink, was well-received, gaining significant critical acclaim. They made several 2006 best album lists and have continued to see marked success in the States.
