Born Yesterday was originally written by Garison Kanin to star Jean Arthur, a friend of his who had not been on the Broadway
stage in several years. The play was nearly axed when Arthur pulled out after only a few performances. Judy Holliday was
reluctantly cast for the part, and proved to be the lifeblood of the show, eventually starring in the same role on the silver
screen.
