Boston Pops Orchestra - History

The Boston Pops Orchestra was founded in 1885 by Henry Lee Higginson, who had founded the Boston Symphony Orchestra four years earlier. Higginson wanted a separate entity to play a "lighter" form of music than classic symphony, and over time they have developed their own identity both in terms of the music they play and the conductors who lead them.
