Red Sox Update – Week of July 4

The defending champs have had an up and down first half to the season, but the Red Sox have shown some major signs of life as well and are still within striking distance of the other teams in the A.L. East, setting them up for an exciting season half as the Red Sox look to swing their way back into the mix. The division has been one of the most surprising in all of baseball so far, with the Blue Jays and Orioles putting it together and making their move to the top of the division. Though the Red Sox have a little bit of work left to do this season, all the pieces are there are fans are expecting to see a few winning streaks in the second half.

And one of the major reasons for optimism moving forward, unsurprisingly, is the presence of David Ortiz, who continues to absolutely mash in the heart of the order. On pace for another season with 30+ homers and more than 100 RBIs, Ortiz has been one of the most productive hitters in the American League, particularly with a red-hot June. After somewhat of a slow start to the season, Ortiz put up seven homers and 21 RBIs in June while hitting.316, leading the Red Sox nearly across the board offensively in the process.

Pitching wise, the Red Sox have also had some great performances as well, particularly from Jon Lester. Holding an ERA below 3.00, Lester has been the leader of the pitching staff so far this season, though John Lackey has also been a force to be reckoned with, putting up quality starts nearly every time out. Even though many fans around the league expected to see the Red Sox higher in the standings, there is still a lot of baseball left to be played, and the Sox definitely have no intention of going quietly.

Boston Red Sox 2014 Schedule

The Boston Red Sox are ready to hit the diamond in 2014 in an effort to defend their championship, which is never an easy task but they also have one of the most talented teams in the entire league. The Red Sox were crowned as World Champions after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series last season, and are looking to post another successful season this time around. With some of the best players in Major League Baseball, the Red Sox should be a force to be reckoned with, and every other team in the American League is fully aware of that. Home games at Fenway Park are sure to be rocking once again this season, though you also shouldn't forget about the away games, as they'll give you 81 different opportunities to see the Red Sox do their thing on the diamond.

Of course, some of the biggest games of the season take place when the Red Sox take on the New York Yankees. When the Yankees come to Fenway Park, the atmosphere of the stadium gets a little more intense and a little more hostile, but that only adds to the fun of going out to the ballpark. The Red Sox and Yankees have one of the best rivalries in sports, and their 2014 matchups are sure to be as enjoyable as ever for the Boston fans in the stands at Fenway. The Yankees always boast a potent lineup, so the Boston pitching staff will have to bring its A-game to down the Bronx Bombers.

The Red Sox also play their other American League East division foes on a regular basis, so expect to see a lot of matchups with the Tamp Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays as well. Games against their division rivals are always treated with extra attention, as these contests could dictate who emerges victorious in the A.L. East in 2014. The Red Sox are eyeing the division title and more yet again this season, so don't miss out on seeing them play in person this year, because whether home or on the road, there is sure to plenty of fanfare surrounding the Sox.
