The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s first performance was held at the Old Boston Music Hall under the direction of Georg
Henschel. The performance was the dream of founder Henry Lee Higginson, who continued to create more successful Boston concerts
groups over the years. In 1917 the BSO made its first recordings for RCA, just two years after its first transcontinental
trip. Since Henschel the orchestra has had 12 other conductors, including the most recent in James Levine.
Since its first performances in 1881 the Boston Symphony Orchestra has remained one of the leading orchestras of all time,
performing at its home concert hall, the infamous Symphony Hall, which was inaugurated in 1900. The concert, under the musical
direction of Levine, will be unforgettable as it takes you on a journey you never thought possible. Visit Boston this year
