Boz Scaggs was born William Royce Scaggs, but his name
eventually changed when a schoolmate gave him the nickname Bosley, which he later shortened to Boz and used as his stage name.
Scaggs was 12 years old when he picked up the guitar for the first time, and from that moment on he was addicted to the instrument,
and it his guitar skills would soon help him achieve phenomenal success. While attending St. Mark's School in Texas, Scaggs
met Steve Miller, and in 1959 he joined Miller's band, the Marksmen, and acted as the lead vocalist. Both Miller and Scaggs
later attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they continued their musical partnership. They played in various
blues rock bands together during their college years, but Scaggs eventually dropped out to pursue a solo career, which ultimately
failed. After his unsuccessful attempt at becoming a solo artist, Scaggs joined the Steve Miller Band, which helped thrust
Scaggs into the spotlight and scored him a record deal with Atlantic Records and then later Columbia Records.
